Company history

The business was founded by former City dealer Jonathan Hufford, who decided to set up his own company with the intention of making spread betting more accessible.

In May 2006 Spreadex launched an online sports spread betting service and followed that by launching a financial spread betting online trading platform soon after.

Spreadex was listed in the Sunday Times PriceWaterhouseCoopers Profit Track 100 - which names the UK's top 100 most profitable companies - for three years in succession.

In February 2010 Spreadex piloted a JetMiles scheme which allowed their clients to earn flight time in a private jet from their trading.

In May 2010, Spreadex launched a full fixed odds sports betting service allowing bets to be placed in both fractional and decimal format.

This was followed in December 2010 by the company’s Mobile Sports Betting Platform going live, allowing clients to bet via their iPhone, smartphone or tablet device.

In June 2011 Spreadex acquired the client database of extrabet, the sports betting arm of IG Group, doubling the size of its sports business and leading to an estimated 35% share of the sports spread betting market.

Spreadex released its financial iPhone trading app in August 2011 allowing its clients to trade on the move.

In September 2011 Spreadex introduced an online Casino featuring table, card, slot, video poker, instant win games and a live dealer service.

In January of 2012 Spreadex acquired the client database of MF Global Spreads and in February 2012 the client database of was incorporated into Spreadex giving the firm an estimated 10% share of the financial spread betting market.

In June of 2012 Spreadex revamped its online financial trading platform to include advanced features such as one-click dealing, standard/pairs view and customisable trading windows.
