Daily Spread Betting Round-up
The final weekend before Christmas saw some of our online betting putters land big winning bets. We have trawled through the major sporting events to pick out three of the biggest ones!
The main boxing event this weekend undoubtedly came from the States, where Anthony Joshua sent Jake Paul to the hospital in a farcical fight. Over on these shores, there was some proper festive fayre as Troy Williamson travelled to Yorkshire to face home hero Callum Simpson in Leeds.
Simpson – hailing from just down the M1 in Barnsley – was the huge favourite, both in the crowd and in the betting, but he was unable to overcome Williamson. The British, European, and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles were on the line as Williamson came good on a promise he made to fans back at the end of October.
With Simpson tumbling to the canvas on four occasions, Williamson eventually got the job done in the tenth round to secure the biggest win of his career. If was a huge night for the man from Darlington and a great night for sellers on our 10-3 Supremacy at 12.5-15.5.
Simpson was made the favourite on a market which awards ten points for a win and three points for every round remaining if there is a stoppage, so a Williamson stoppage in the tenth saw the market settle at -19 (the round of the stoppage also counts as a round ‘remaining’). This left sellers securing a big knockout win of their own as they pocketed 31.5x their stake.
Sure, the cricketing focus in Australia has been on the death of Bazball, but we don’t need to rake over the hot coals of another England failure on antipodean soil. Instead, let’s head to Queensland, where there was a sensational Big Bash match on Friday.
Perth Scorchers, batting first, set a target of 257-6 after an innings that included a league-high 18 sixes. Losing opener Colin Munro in the first delivery of the chase wasn’t the ideal start for Brisbane but with Jack Wildermuth and Middlesbrough-born Matt Renshaw both scoring centuries, the Heat got the job done with one delivery to spare.
It was a record chase in the Bash, and with Brisbane blasting 18 maximums of their own, a record number of sixes scored in a match. If you are going to be buying Sixes Squared at 191-217, a record number of sixes is what you want and with the market settling at 1296, buyers won 1079x their stake.
It is the season for dishing out cards and John Brooks certainly got into the spirit at the weekend as eight different players found their way onto his naughty list. Chief offenders were Xavi Simons and Cristian Romero who both saw red as Tottenham finished their 2-1 defeat against Liverpool with nine men on the pitch.
Buyers on the Bookings spread will have been pleased to see Alexis MacAllister, Richarlison, Micky van de Ven, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Dominik Szoboszlai all find their way into the book after the 80th minute (in addition to Romero’s sending off).
With the spread at 44-48 before kick off at Anfield, the late flurry was good news for buyers who saw the spread make up at 110 as they won 62x their stake.
