Bets Of The Week

It is a bumper week of sports this week and our traders are anticipating a flurry of betting action on the PGA Championship, Championship play-offs and the big fight at the weekend. In this betting blog, we break down the odds for all three events with both our fixed odds and spread betting markets highlighted.

GOLF – PGA CHAMPIONSHIP

The PGA Championship is back this weekend as 156 of the best players in the world head to Kentucky for the second men’s major of the year.

Your 9/2 favourite is Scottie Scheffler, who after a sublime performance at Augusta will be looking to take home a second major of the year. After success at the Wells Fargo last weekend, Rory McIlroy is a 13/2 shot whilst the man he beat into second place, Xander Schauffele, is 12/1.

Brooks Koepka won his third PGA Championship last year and can be backed at 16/1, whilst young Swede Ludvig Aberg impressed at the Masters and is rated as an 18/1 chance.

In our golf spread betting markets, Rory McIlroy is given a Finishing Position spread of 18-22 at a course where he tasted victory in this competition back in 2014. We also have some interesting spread markets in our Tournament Matchbets with Tommy Fleetwood marginally favoured at 0-1.5 shots in a match bet with fellow Englishman Tyrell Hatton.

FOOTBALL – CHAMPIONSHIP PLAY-OFFS

The Championship play-offs regularly produce drama but for those interested in football betting, it certainly paid to be on the unders at the weekend with both clashes finishing 0-0.

Leeds United face partner club Norwich City at Elland Road on Thursday as Leeds look to make it sixth time lucky in the play-offs. The Whites are 8/13 to win in 90 minutes and are 3/10 to qualify whilst the Canaries are 5/2 to make it to Wembley. With the first match being such a cagey affair – the two sides mustered just three shots on target between them – the Total Goals spread will attract some interest at 2.65-2.85.

Defences were also on top at The Hawthorns where another of our partner clubs, West Bromwich Albion, held Southampton. Carlos Corberan is renowned for setting his sides up well defensively and goals could be at a premium on the south coast. Southampton are 4/11 to qualify, with the Baggies at 2/1 whilst under 2.5 goals is available to back at 4/5. In our football spread betting markets, Total Goal Minutes can be bought or sold at 126-136 and Goals Cubed is priced at 37-43.

BOXING – TYSON FURY v OLEKSANDR USYK

It has been a long time coming but this weekend, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will finally go toe-to-toe for the right to become undisputed heavyweight champion in Saudi Arabia.

The Briton – who suffered a gash above the eye causing the postponement of the first fight – is a narrow 5/6 favourite in our boxing betting odds with Usyk 19/20 and the draw at 20/1. Fury will be hoping that his size advantage will play a part in dismantling the comparatively stocky Ukrainian with the Englishman 10/3 to win by stoppage and 21/10 to win it on the judges’ scorecards.

Usyk, by comparison, is 9/5 to win by decision and 5/1 to win by stoppage and our traders certainly fancy the fight to go deep into the 12 rounds with the Total Minutes boxing spread betting market at 30.25-31.75. We have a number of other spread betting markets with the Completed Rounds Squared market at 107-117 and Fury a narrow favourite in the 10/3 market which is priced -0.5-2.5 (this spread awards ten points to the winner and three points for every round remaining in the fight at the time of the result).

Mairis Briedis, who was once beaten by Usyk in a cruiserweight unification bout, will have his work cut out in a match-up with 2/13 favourite Jai Opetaia for the IBF cruiserweight belt whilst Welshman Joe Cordina defends his IBF super-featherweight title and is 2/11 to do so against Belfast’s Anthony Cacace.
