By Celtic’s usual high standards, the club have made a disappointing start to the season, winning just six of their opening ten league matches. That run has left them second in the table, six points adrift of leaders Hearts, and their bid for a fifth consecutive league title already under threat. At Celtic, anything less than winning the league is seen as failure — a reflection of their dominance, having lifted thirteen of the last fourteen titles.
The sluggish start prompted a major change, with Brendan Rodgers dismissed and club legend Martin O’Neill appointed as interim manager. O’Neill, who guided Celtic to seven trophies during his first spell between 2000 and 2005, made an immediate impact on his return, overseeing a commanding 4–0 victory over Falkirk in his first game back in charge.
Now, O’Neill has the opportunity to further cement his legacy as he prepares for his second match — a high-stakes League Cup semi-final against fierce rivals Rangers. A win would make Celtic strong favourites to lift the trophy once again, with Motherwell or St Mirren awaiting in the final.

Rangers have endured a difficult start to the season, collecting only 15 points from their first 10 league matches. The poor run of form led to former manager Russell Martin being forced out by frustrated supporters, paving the way for ex-Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Röhl to take charge.
Röhl’s appointment was initially met with skepticism among the Rangers faithful, but back-to-back league victories have quickly begun to turn opinions. His energy and passion on the touchline have also helped win over many fans.
The 36-year-old now has a golden opportunity to cement his place in Rangers folklore as his side prepares to face arch-rivals Celtic in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on Sunday. A win would not only mark Röhl’s first Old Firm triumph but also make Rangers strong favourites to lift what would be their 29th Scottish League Cup title. Can Röhl inspire his side to victory and put them on course for early-season silverware?

Celtic are the favourites to win this tie, priced at 4/6 on Spreadex’s fixed odds market (8/13 on our 2 Up early payout Match Odds market) with Rangers priced at 17/5 (29/10 on the 2 Up early payout market) and the draw at 29/10.
The last time these two sides met in the Scottish League Cup, fans were treated to a thrilling 3–3 draw. If you’re expecting both teams to find the net once again, you can back BTTS (Both Teams To Score) at 40/85. For those predicting another goal-fest, over 5.5 total goals is currently priced at 6/1.
Our football spread betting prices have Celtic as the favourites with a Goal Supremacy quote of Celtic/Rangers 0.75 – 0.95. This means a 'buy' bet at 0.95 would need a Celtic win to start turning a profit (e.g. one goal win would win 0.05x your stake, two goal win would win 1.05x your stake etc.).
A 0.75 'sell' bet would need a draw or Rangers win to turn a profit (e.g. draw would win 0.75x your stake, one goal Rangers win 1.75x your stake etc.).
Our spread betting Total Goals line is 3.15 – 3.35. So a 3.35 'buy' bet would need at least four goals to be scored in the match to start turning a profit. Conversely, a ‘3.15’ sell bet would need three goals or less to be scored in the match to turn a profit.
Remember that with spread betting, get the bet wrong and losses can exceed your stake/deposit. E.g. a 3.35 'buy' Total Goals bet would lose 3.35x your stake if the match ended 0-0. In the 0.95 'buy' Supremacy bet example above, if the game ended a draw the bet would lose 0.95x your stake. If Rangers won by one goal then it would lose 1.95x your stake etc. And in the 0.75 'sell' Supremacy example above, the bet would lose 0.25x your stake on a one goal Celtic, 1.25x your stake on a two goal Celtic win etc.

The last time these two sides met, fans witnessed a six-goal thriller, with Total Goal Minutes reaching an incredible 407. Ahead of this weekend’s clash, the Total Goal Minutes spread has been set much lower, at 159–169.
That previous meeting also delivered plenty of late drama, with the Last Match Goal coming in the 88th minute. For this encounter, the Last Match Goal spread sits at 68–71, leaving plenty of room for another dramatic late twist at Hampden.
