The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the world’s most high-profile domestic T20 competition, bringing together elite international stars and India’s top talent in a fast-paced franchise tournament. Launched in 2008 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the IPL quickly became one of the richest and most-watched cricket leagues globally.
Played annually across major Indian cities, the tournament features ten franchise teams competing in a league stage followed by playoffs and a final. With packed stadiums, global broadcast audiences and iconic players, the IPL delivers high-intensity cricket and dramatic finishes every season.
The most recent completed IPL season saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru crowned champions after defeating Punjab Kings by six runs in the final.
Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav won the player of the tournament last year representing Mumbai Indians.

The next IPL season is expected to take place in spring 2026, typically running from March to May, although exact dates will be confirmed by the BCCI closer to the tournament.
The IPL is hosted across multiple venues in India, with matches played at major cricket stadiums throughout the country. Cities that regularly stage IPL fixtures include Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Delhi and Ahmedabad.
