Mexico v South Africa Betting Form?

To Gianni Infantino and the rest of FIFA, it may be called the Mexico City Stadium, but the rest of the world knows it as the Azteca Stadium, and on Thursday, the historic ground will become the first to host a match in three separate World Cups. Hosts Mexico open their campaign against South Africa, in a direct repeat of the opening match in 2010 and they will have to deal with the weight of expectation surrounding them.

Javier Aguirre is back in the El Tri dugout for third time, but the man from Mexico City does not have the same star quality as in previous years. Going forwards, they are overly reliant on Fulham’s Raul Jimenez, who has never delivered his best at a World Cup. Three wins from three in the warmup matches have boosted morale amongst the fans and there will be plenty of attention on 17-year-old Tijuana midfielder Gilberto Mora, who came off the bench in the recent 5-1 win over Serbia.

South Africa have qualified for their first World Cup since 2002 (2010 saw them enter automatically as hosts) and recent AFCON campaigns have raised hopes that Bafana Bafana may finally deliver on the world stage. An economic powerhouse on the continent, the success of South Africa’s club sides regularly eclipses that of the national side, but after qualifying ahead of Nigeria, there is hope that Hugo Broos’ side can achieve qualification from one of the weaker groups in the tournament.

The South Africans played Jamaica on Saturday in Pachuca, in somewhat unusual circumstances. Fans and media were banned from attending, and with most sources saying South Africa had won 1-0, it was up to the SAFA to confirm it was in fact a 1-1 draw. Goals may be at a premium for South Africa at the World Cup, although their most recognisable star is Burnley forward Lyle Foster. Orlando Pirates winger Oswin Appollis could be a breakout star with four goals in his last five matches for Bafana Bafana.

What Are The Best Odds On Mexico v South Africa?

Siphiwe Tshabalala wrote himself into South African folklore when he scored the opening goal of the 2010 World Cup as Bafana Bafana drew 1-1 with Mexico. A point for South Africa this time around would be regarded as a great result given that Mexico are currently priced up at 2/5 to get an opening night win. The draw can be backed at 7/2, with South Africa 7/1 to spoil the party. You can back the hosts at 4/11 with our 2 Up concession, whilst Bafana Bafana are 13/2 in the same market.

In our goals markets, you can back over 2.5 goals at 6/5, whilst both teams to score has been priced up at 6/4. Raul Jimenez is 6/5 to score anytime and 7/2 to kick off the party. The aforementioned Oswin Appolis is 13/2 to score in what could be a huge World Cup for the 24-year-old.
