Royal Ascot 2026 Betting Preview
Royal Ascot is one of the centrepieces of the racing calendar. With 35 races featuring eight Group 1s spread across the five days, as well as the pomp and ceremony of this very British meeting, it is one of the major betting events of the year. If you are a fan of flat racing, this five-day festival has something for everyone as some of the best horses in the world try to land one of the big prizes, whilst the big, competitive handicaps offer a chance to land a big each way punt.
At the time of writing, final declarations have yet to be made, but we can have a quick spin through our antepeost betting odds. The Queen Anne Stakes is the first race on the festival and Notable Speech is the current favourite to land the first Group 1 spoils of the week for Charlie Appleby having won the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury earlier this year. The King Charles III Stakes has seen Australian horses come home in front in both 2022 and 2024. Bjorn Baker’s Overpass will look to keep the run of Antipodean success going. The final Group 1 on the opening day is the St James’s Palace Stakes, where Bow Echo, Gstaad, and Talk Of New York all have good chances.
Wednesday’s highlight is the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes, a race which was first contested back in 1862, but is now worth more than £1m in prize money. Arc winner Daryz finished sixth on his only other visit to these shores in the International Cup at York, but after picking up two Group 1 victories in France already this season he is a strong favourite. Defending champion Ombudsman, and the winner of that International Cup race, rates as the best of the rest.
Thursday is Gold Cup day at Ascot, and there are plenty of live chances in one of the most prestigious races worldwide. St Ledger winner Scandinavia and Yorkshire Cup winner Rahiebb top the market, whilst Trawlerman will look to defend his crowd.
Introduced to improve opportunities for three-year-old sprinters in Europe, the Commonwealth Cup is the first of two Group 1 contests on Friday with punters also savouring the Coronation Stakes where Precise is likely to be a strong favourite.
The fifth and final day sees the running of the The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes. Another race which is now worth over £1m in prize money, the race has attracted a top Australian sprinter. Trainer Chris Waller, winner of the 2022 King Charles III Stakes with Nature Strip, sends Aussie raider Joliestar to land a jackpot prize.
