Sunderland’s return to the Premier League for the first time since the 2016/17 season has been nothing short of sensational so far. Unbeaten at home and with 17 points from their first nine games, Regis Le Bris’s side currently occupy fourth spot in the Premier League.
Saturday’s come-from-behind win away at Chelsea was their biggest scalp yet from a campaign that has already seen them down West Ham, Brentford, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.
WIN: Chelsea 1-2 Sunderland. Saturday 25th October 2025. WIN: Sunderland 2-0 Wolves. Saturday 18th October 2025.LOSS: Man Utd 2-0 Sunderland. Saturday 4th October 2025.WIN: Nottingham Forest 0-1 Sunderland. Saturday 27th September 2025.
Everton fell to their first home league defeat of the season against Tottenham at the weekend and, after a relatively encouraging start to the season, now find themselves with just one win in their last seven matches in all competitions.
Away from home David Moyes’s side have already tumbled to defeats against Leeds, Liverpool, and Man City in the league and at Wolves in the Carabao Cup.

The betting odds could not be closer for Sunderland v Everton at the Stadium of Light, with both sides priced at the exact same 17/10 for the win on Spreadex Sports’s fixed odds prices.
The draw is 21/10 while Spreadex’s 2-Up early payout market, which settles when either side takes a two goal lead, has the Black Cats at 13/8 (2.63 decimal), just a tiny fraction larger than Everton at 8/5 (2.60 decimal).

The sports spread betting prices on Sunderland v Everton can’t split the teams with the Goal Supremacy a ‘choice’ offering of Sunderland/Everton -0.1 – 0.1.
This means that the mid-point of the spread is exactly on 0 (i.e. the game being a draw). So a ‘buy’ at 0.1 would need Sunderland to win to return a profit (e.g.one goal Sunderland win would return 0.9 x your stake, two goal Sunderland win 1.9 x your stake etc.).
And a sell at -0.1 would need Everton to win to return a profit (e.g. one goal Everton win would return 0.9 x your stake, two goal Everton win 1.9 x your stake etc.).
Our spread betting Total Goals line is 2.3 – 2.5. So a 'buy' bet at 2.5 would need at least three goals to be scored in the match to start turning a profit. Oppositely, a 2.3 sell bet would need two goals or less to be scored in the match to turn a profit.
Remember that with spread betting, get the bet wrong and losses can exceed your stake/deposit. E.g. a 2.5 'buy' Total Goals bet would lose 2.5 times your stake if the match ended 0-0. In the 0.1 'buy' Supremacy bet example above, if the game ended a draw the bet would lose 0.1 x your stake. If Everton won by one goal then it would lose 1.1 x your stake, if Everton won by two goals then lose 2.1 x your stake etc. And in the -0.1 'sell' Supremacy example above, if the game ended a draw then the bet would again lose 0.1 x your stake. If Sunderland won by one goal then the bet would lose 1.1 x your stake, if Sunderland won by two goals would lose 2.1 x your stake etc.

The last time the two sides met was over nine years ago, back in September 2016 when Romelu Lukaku scored three times past now-Everton keeper Jordan Pickford in the Sunderland goal to give the Toffees a 3-0 win. If you fancied a repeat of that scoreline this time around, that’s priced at 22/1.
Looking at Sunderland’s five home games so far this season, the Black Cats have so far had a habit of scoring late on. Their third v West Ham on the opening day saw Wilson Isidor strike in the 90th minute, Marc Guiu – now back at Chelsea after his loan spell was cut short – bagged in the 84th minute v Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup, the Black Cats’ winner v Brentford again came from Isidor in the 90th minute, Isidor again found the net in the next home game v Aston Villa in the 75th minute and last time out at home v Wolves there was yet another 90th minute goal as Ladislav Krejci put through his own goal for the visitors.
Last Match Goal is priced at 59 – 62, so a buy at 62 would have come in for any of the above matches (made 28 x stake v West Ham, 22 x stake v Huddersfield, 28 x stake v Brentford, 13 x stake v Villa and 28 x stake v Wolves).
It’s important to remember that spread betting losses can exceed deposit so if the match were to end 0-0, then Last Match Goal would settle at 0 so a buy at 62 would lose 62 x your initial stake. If each of the games mentioned above were to have finished 0-0, they of course too would have lost 62 x the initial stake.
Sunderland Total Goal Minutes could also be worth a look at 56 – 64. A buy at 64 would again have come in for any of the previous home games; won 160 x stake v West Ham, 20 x stake v Huddersfield, 108 x stake v Brentford, 11 x stake v Villa and 42 x stake v Wolves.
Once again, given the nature of spread betting meaning you can lose more than your initial stake, if the game v Everton were to finish 0-0, then you would lose 64 x your stake on a Sunderland Total Goal Minutes buy at 64. Similarly if the matches mentioned above had finished 0-0, the theoretical buy at 64 would also have resulted in a loss of 64 x your initial stake in each case.
