Super Bowl Preview

The Patriots and the Seahawks played a famous match in Super Bowl XLIX, with a game-winning Malcom Butler interception giving New England a hard-fought victory. But the two sides are very different now. Let’s take a look at how each team got to this year’s Super Bowl, and their respective paths to victory.

The New England Patriots – The Patriots have been the most successful side of the 21st century. Legendary quarterback Tom Brady led the team to six Super Bowl victories from 2002-2019.

The Pats struggled following Brady’s departure, but had an amazing bounce-back season this year led by second-year quarterback Drake Maye. MVP candidate Maye has been well mentored by head coach Mike Vrabel, who took the reins at the beginning of this season, turning the side around in remarkably quick time. Other key contributors for New England include star wide receiver Stefon Diggs and defensive stars like Milton Williams and Christian Gonzalez.

The Patriots finished the regular season at 14-3 and were the number two seeds in the AFC. They beat the Los Angeles Chargers, Houston Texans and Denver Broncos en route to Santa Clara. Perhaps their biggest weapon in the playoffs has been their defence, with New England conceding just 26 points across the entire post-season. They will need both sides of the ball to be on song if they are to win on Sunday.

The Seattle Seahawks – The Seahawks have also been a strong team for much of the last two decades. They won Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014, before finishing runners-up to New England in 2015.

The team returned to the top this year, with head coach Mike McDonald, who took over from the long-tenured Pete Carroll, leading his team to a 14-3 record and the number one seed in the NFC in just his second season in charge. Quarterback Sam Darnold has followed up on a resurgent 2024 season, playing elite football all season, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been perhaps the best wide receiver in the NFL this campaign.

Seattle faced two division rivals during their playoff run, comfortably beating the San Francisco 49ers before defeating the Los Angeles Rams 31-27 in a nail-biting encounter.  The Seahawks excel in all three phases of the game, including Special Teams, with punter Michael Dickson and return specialist Rasheed Shaheed both playing vital roles in the team’s success. They will be hoping for stand-out performances from all their stars in Super Bowl LX.

Mike Vrabel’s side can be backed at 15/8 to win an incredible 7th Super Bowl crown.

You can also bet on individual player markets like our Player Passing Yards market. Sophomore star Drake Maye has struggled somewhat in the playoffs but will need a big performance in this one. You can back him to have Over 275 Passing Yards at 13/5. Seattle’s Sam Darnold has well-and-truly put his past behind him, performing at an elite level all year. You can back him to have Over 275 Passing Yards at 12/5.

Our pricing team also have a wide array of spread betting markets for individual player performances. Our Player Touchdown Minutes market offers a spread on the cumulative number of minutes of all touchdowns scored by one player. For example, if former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp scored in the 10th and 36th minute, his spread would make up at 46.

Other spread betting market include our Points Supremacy market, which has Seattle favoured by 3.5-5.5 points. This means if you expect Seattle to win by at least six points, you can “buy”, and if you expect them to win three points or fewer, or lose the game, you can “sell”. We also offer a Total Points market for the total number of points scored in the game. This is currently set at 44.5-47.5. If you expect at least 48 points in the game, you can buy, or if you expect 44 or fewer you can sell. If the game ended 32-30 and you bought, you would win 14.5x your stake, but if we saw a low-scoring 10-7 result, you would lose 20.5x your stake.
