The Ashes Betting Preview

landing-page-theashespreview2025

England head Down Under as they attempt to win The Ashes on Australian soil for the first time in over a decade and hopes are high that the tourists will at least be more competitive than recent editions. The hosts are 4/7 to win series outright, with a drawn series at 15/2 and an England win priced at 15/2. If England are to triumph, they will need Joe Root to continue his recent form, but curiously, the Yorkshireman has never hit a century in Australia. He is 21/10 to top score for England, with fellow Tyke Harry Brook priced up at 11/4 with openers Ben Duckett 9/2 and Zak Crawley 13/2 in the same market.

Steve Smith was a bit hit and miss in the last series in England, but the Aussie vice-captain is 10/3 to top score in the series and 13/8 to top score for the hosts. In our cricket spread betting markets, you can trade Joe Root’s series run total at 418-443 with the talismanic Ben Stokes having a spread of 325-45. We also have Bowler Index spreads which award ten points per wicket and 25 points for a five wicket haul with Jofra Archer’s Index available to trade at 188-203.

Before you look at our Ashes betting markets, we have all you need to know as England look to try and bring the urn home.

BEGINNERS GUIDE TO THE ASHES

What Are The Ashes?

The Ashes is a five-match Test cricket series held between Australia and England, with the two nations taking it in turn to host a series. The winner of each series win The Ashes and if a series is drawn, the current holders get to retain them. The last two series in England have been drawn with Australia retaining the Ashes they won outright at home at 2017/18 and 2021/22.

How Often Are The Ashes?

The Ashes take place every four years in an English summer and every four years in an Australian summer. The next Ashes will take place in England in 2027 and in Australia in 2029/30.

Why Are The Ashes Called The Ashes?

After a successful Australian tour to England back in 1882, The Sporting Times wrote an obituary to English cricket declaring that ‘the body will be cremated and the ashes taken back to Australia’. On the return series in Australia, England’s captain Ivo Bligh vowed to ‘bring back those ashes’ and from there, the series was christened.
