The Open Championship

The Open Championship, also known by its incorrect name The British Open, is the final major of the golfing calendar played in mid-July.

The Open has only ever been played on 14 courses across the British Isles, with 10 active courses currently on the rotation.

Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson (2016) and Australian Cam Smith (2022) both hold the record of lowest combined score in an Open Championship at 20 under par.

When is the 2026 Open Championship?

  • The 2026 US Open will be played on July 16th-19th at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England.

 

Where is the 2026 Open Championship being played?

  • The 2026 Open Championship returns to Royal Birkdale for the first time since 2017. The 2017 tournament is most famous for eventual winner Jordan Speith playing an approach shot from the driving range on the 13th hole.
