Wales endured heartbreak in their last outing, falling short of a second consecutive major tournament after a penalty shootout defeat to Bosnia-Herzegovina in their World Cup play-off semi-final at home. Dan James had given the hosts an early lead, but a late equaliser from Edin Džeko forced the game into extra time, which remained goalless. Misses from Neco Williams and Brennan Johnson in the shootout ultimately saw Wales eliminated, ending their hopes of reaching this summer’s World Cup in the USA.
They will now aim to bounce back and finish the international break on a positive note as they host Northern Ireland at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Like Wales, Northern Ireland endured disappointment in their previous outing, as a 2–0 defeat away to Italy brought an end to their hopes of qualifying for this summer’s World Cup. Goals from Sandro Tonali and Moise Kean sealed the result at the New Balance Arena on Thursday, though Northern Ireland could still take pride in a spirited performance.
They will now look to respond positively and finish the international break on a high by overcoming fellow home nation Wales.

Wales are the favourites heading into this game and are priced at 7/10 to get the victory on Spreadex’s fixed odds market (13/20 on our 2 Up early payout Match Odds market) whilst visitors Northern Ireland are priced at 15/4 to get the win (17/5 on our 2 Up early payout Match Odds market) and the draw priced at 14/5.
The last time these two sides met was back in 2016 with Wales winning the game 1-0. You can get a repeat of this scoreline this time round priced at 13/2 on Spreadex Sports fixed odds betting markets.
Our football spread betting prices have Wales as the favourites with a Goal Supremacy quote of Wales/N Ireland 0.75 – 0.95. This means a 'buy' bet at 0.95 would need a Wales win to start turning a profit (e.g. one goal win would win 0.05x your stake, two goal win would win 1.05x your stake etc.).
A 0.75 'sell' bet would need a draw or Northern Ireland win to turn a profit (e.g. draw would win 0.75x your stake and a Northern Ireland one goal win would win 1.75x your stake etc.).
Our spread betting Total Goals line is 2.65 – 2.85. So a 2.85 'buy' bet would need at least three goals to be scored in the match to start turning a profit. Conversely, a ‘2.65’ sell bet would need two goals or less to be scored in the match to turn a profit.
Remember that with spread betting, get the bet wrong and losses can exceed your stake/deposit. E.g. a 2.85 'buy' Total Goals bet would lose 2.85x your stake if the match ended 0-0. In the 0.95 'buy' Supremacy bet example above, if the game ended in a draw you would lose 0.95x your stake, if the game ended in a Northern Ireland one goal win then it would lose 1.95x your stake etc. And in the 0.75 'sell' Supremacy example above, the bet would lose 0.25x your stake on a one goal Wales win and 1.25x your stake on a two goal Wales win etc.
Price Boosts are typically available on the Spreadex website the day before the game, so it’s worth checking back closer to kick-off for enhanced odds. In addition, Spreadex also features ‘Popular Bet-Builders’, specially curated by their in-house pricing team to highlight fan-favourite betting combinations.
There was late action in both Wales and Northern Ireland’s last outings with the final match goal being scored in the 86th minute and 80th minute. This time round the spread for the Last Match Goal spread betting market is 64 – 67.
Remember that with spread betting, get the bet wrong and losses can exceed your stake/deposit. So for example if the Last Match Goal was scored in the 50th minute, a ‘buy’ at 67 would lose 17x times your stake.
