WHAT IS THE TGL?

The TGL (The Golf League) Is a simulator golf league competed by six teams of four golfers (expanding to seven teams for the 2027 season), including Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, who were both instrumental in the creation of the league along with the PGA Tour.

The league uses virtual holes which have been specifically created for the TGL. The players will hit shots into a huge simulator screen when teeing off and hitting approach shots into the green.

Once they’re 50 yards from the green they will move to the ‘Green Zone’, which is a green that is on a turn table and can alter the undulations on the green.

WHAT IS THE TGL SCHEDULE?

The TGL starts at 8pm GMT on Sunday 28th December and culminates with the final series played on the 23rd and 24th March.

Each team will play five matches during the regular season before the top four teams advance to the playoffs which will take place on the 17th March.

Throughout the season the TGL matches will take place midweek to avoid any conflicts with the PGA Tour schedule.

WHAT IS THE FORMAT OF A TGL MATCH?

Each match in the TGL is played over 15 holes and is split into two different forms of matchplay events. For the first 9 holes each team will select three of their four members to take part in an alternate shot format.  The second format is traditional matchplay where each player will play two holes.

When a team wins a hole, they will get a point. Whichever team has the most points at the end of the match will win.

The TGL also adopts rules which you wouldn’t see at a regular golf event. Each shot during a TGL match is under shot clock rules where each team has to take their shot within 40 seconds.

There is also the “Hammer” rule where each time has the opportunity to add an additional point to a hole throughout the match. The opposition team can reject the hammer but will concede the hole to the team that activated the hammer.

WHO WON THE TGL LAST YEAR AND WHAT ARE THE TEAMS THIS YEAR?

The first season of the TGL was won by Atlanta Drive GC, a team made up of Justin Thomas, Patrick Cantlay, Billy Horschel, and Lucas Glover. The other teams in the TGL are:
