The World Matchplay is one of the PDC's Triple Crown events and one of the biggest tournaments on the darting calendar. It is played annually, taking place every July at Blackpool's iconic Winter Gardens.
The World Matchplay has an elite field of players, with 32 of the world's best players competing for the title. The 2025 edition offered a generous prize fund of £800,000, including £200,000 for the winner.
Luke Littler is the reigning champion after defeating James Wade in the final, becoming the youngest ever winner of the World Matchplay and completing the Triple Crown. Phil Taylor is the tournament's most successful player, amassing an astonishing 16 titles over his career.

The 2026 edition will return in July, with specific dates yet to be announced.
The tournament is shown live on Sky Sports, with coverage typically split between Sky Sports Darts and Sky Sports Main Event.
Reigning champion Luke Littler will be the favourite to defend his title after a dominant display at the 2025 edition. The "Nuke" averaged over 105 for the tournament and hit a nine-darter against Josh Rock in the semi-final.
