Andrew Mount's Racing Tips
Andrew successfully opposed MR TREVOR on Wednesday (9th, 16-5f) and has two recommended bets/trades on Thursday, June 13th.
HICKORY heads the early betting at around the 5-2 mark for this 7f Class 3 handicap but he’s a hold-up performer in a race lacking an obvious pacesetter and he’s won just once from seven tries on turf. The first-time cheekpieces might lead to a more prominent ride but I’d rather chance GAME SET at a bigger price. The Owen Borrows-trained three-year-old was always to the fore when scoring on his racecourse debut at Doncaster last June and when following up at Wolverhampton later the same month and might be able to dominate under Jim Crowley.
He bombed out at Doncaster in July on his only other juvenile outing, but the soft ground was reportedly against him and the subsequent absence until last month’s return in a 1m handicap at Kempton suggests that he may have had a physical issue too. His comeback run (also his first start since a gelding operation) when seventh of 12 was a respectable enough effort, especially as the trip looked to stretch him. Burrows has a good record with his runners on their second start after gelding (seven winners from 37 bets, +£20.35 to a £1 level stake at SP) and he can be bought in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market.
Recommendation: Back GAME SET in Newbury 4.30
TAFSIR won well over 1m5f at Ayr om her penultimate start and looked unlucky when a 20-1 third of 14 over an inadequate 1m3f at Hamilton next time, repeatedly finding her run blocked in the straight. She was arguably flattered by the pace collapse in that race but the form is already working out well, with the fourth, who like Tafsir came from a midfield sit, winning well-backed at Beverley net time and the sixth keeping on well into fourth place over an inadequate 1m trip at Hamilton last night. She looks a solid play in this 2m handicap having won on her last two course visits. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back TAFSIR in Musselburgh 6.40
Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
