Andrew Mount's Racing Tips
Andrew starts the new week with three recommended bets/trades at Hamilton and Windsor on Monday, September 30th.
With Hamilton’s ground described as good to soft, good in places, with rain forecast it could be too slow for SO GRATEFUL, forecast to start as the 9-2 third favourite in this amateur riders’ handicap. Progeny of his sire Swiss Spirit usually struggle on good to soft or softer going and So Grateful is 0-12 under these conditions, including form figures on soft or heavy going of 8065696 (0-7). Michael & David Easterby’s six-year-old has yet to score outside of the July/August period and can be sold in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market. Fixed odds punters might want to side with LADY CELIA, likely to be around the 8-1 mark. Alan Brown’s mare could never strike a blow over 5f here last week after meeting trouble soon after the start but usually runs well here – form figures of 112326416 (3-9) – and was a 33-1 winner om soft ground at Carlisle in May when last contesting an amateur riders’ race.
Recommendation: Oppose SO GRATEFUL in Hamilton 1.50
James Owens’ fantastic year continued when Wimbledon Hawkeye landed the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday and PELLITORY can keep the ball rolling in this 6f nursery. The Sergei Prokofiev colt scored easily over 7f at Yarmouth last month and failed to last home when racing keenly over 1m at Doncaster on his nursery debut, going down by half a length in second place. The cut back to 6f on deep ground shouldn’t be an issue and he can double his career tally. Buy in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market or take a fixed odds price.
Recommendation: Back PELLITORY in Windsor 2.10
BAY DREAM BELIEVER is best coming late off a strong pace and there are three front-runners to two her along in this 12-runner handicap. Mark Walford’s five-year-old pulled hard when runner-up to short-priced favourite Kingsley Pride in a 1m3f seller here last time and very much caught the eye when third over 1m2f at Beverley the time before, doing second best of the closers when it paid to be on the front end. The patiently-ridden runner-up from that race – Dr Rio – went one better on his next start and Bay Dream Believer has now finished in the frame in nine of his last ten starts. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or back her each-way in the fixed odds betting.
Recommendation: Back BAY DREAM BELIEVER in Hamilton 3.00
Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
