Andrew Mount's Racing Tips
It’s Oaks Day at Epsom on Friday (May 31st) where Andrew heads for his two recommended bets/trades, including one in the big race.
Since 2013, the Hannon yard has sent 13 runners to the Woodcote Stakes – Epsom’s opener on Friday – winning it on four occasions and making the frame with four of the nine beaten horses. The runners drawn in stall 3 or lower recorded form figures of 11214 (3-5) and NEW CHARTER, an eyecatcher at Newmarket on her recent debut, looks worth a bet from stall 3 of 10. The daughter of New Bay, whose progeny have a fine record on their second career starts, was backed from 16-1 into 7-1 for that valuable Class 2 fillies’ novice contest at HQ, finding only Charlie Appleby’s 8-13 favourite Mountain Breeze too good and doing clear best of those to come from off the pace when it paid to race handily. The slower ground won’t trouble her on breeding, and she can be bought in the Spreadex 50-25-10 market.
Recommendation: Back NEW CHARTER in Epsom 2.00
Ralph Beckett’s 13 runners in the Oaks included two big-priced winners – Look Here (33-1 in 2008) and Talent (20-1 in 2013) – and YOU GOT TO ME might prove best of the quartet that he sends to Epsom’s feature race on Friday despite being the yard’s second string at the time of writing. The daughter of Nathaniel was heavily backed when winning well on her debut at Kempton last September and she acquitted herself well on her turf bow at Newmarket next time, keeping on into fifth place in the Listed Montrose Fillies’ Stakes when the heavy ground was probably not ideal. She appreciated the extended 1m3f trip when gamely landing the Lingfield Oaks Trial in a good time on her reappearance and looks nicely drawn in stall 8. Buy in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market or back her each-way in the fixed odds betting.
Recommendation: Back YOU GOT TO ME in Epsom 4.30
Please note that the picks recommended in this blog post are based on past performance and should not be considered a guarantee for future winning outcomes, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
