There are groups of death, and then there is the Euro 2020 Group F. World champions France, defending European champions Portugal, and the down-but-never-out Germany are joined by poor Hungary in an absolute dogfight. It shows the strength of that French side that they can be in such a group and still sit as tournament favourites at 9/2. Their squad is pure filth from front to back, including Kylian Mbappe, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane. Portugal have a solid mix of international experience, including Cristiano Ronaldo and the oldest player in the competition Pepe, and youthful promise, namely Diogo Jota and Joao Felix. And while Germany might only have 2 wins in their last 5 games, their squad rivals anyone else’s, including stalwarts like Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and Toni Kroos, and relative youngsters like Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala and Champions League-winner Kai Havertz. It will also be interesting to see what role Timo Werner plays, after a disappointing debut season at Chelsea. So, who is topping the group? France are at 11/8 to come in 1st, followed by Germany at 6/4 and Portugal at 3/1. In terms of the spreads, it is tight, with France at a Group F Index spread of 13.25-14.75 – 1st place gets 25 points, 2nd place 10 and 3rd place 5 – followed closely by Germany at 13-14.5. Portugal are then at 9-10.5, with Hungary at just 1.5-3. In the pick of the first set of games, France meet Germany in Munich on Tuesday 15th June, with Spreadex offering a narrow France/Germany Goal Supremacy spread of 0-0.2. Whoever does win the group can expect a 3rd place team in the last-16, before meeting the runner-up of either Group D or E – England or Croatia from the former, Sweden or Poland from the latter – in the quarter-finals. A potential semi-final against, on paper, Italy or Belgium would then await.
