Spain celebrated not only lifting the 2026 World Cup trophy, but also set a new incredible record in the process - 38 matches unbeaten, spanning 2 years!
On this topic, Spreadex Sports look at the record in the context of football history and how it compares to great international sides of yesteryear.
With their 1-0 victory over Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final, Spain set the new outright record of 38 matches unbeaten and also became the first team ever to win a World Cup while only conceding a single goal in the entire tournament.
La Furia Roja are no stranger to long unbeaten runs, having set a streak of 35 unbeaten through 2007-2009 in which they won Euro 2008, before their golden run of winning the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 Euros.
They also set a 31-match unbeaten run between 1994 and 1997.
Below are a list of the longest unbeaten runs - these streaks do not take into account defeats via a penalty shootout, with those matches counting as draws for the purposes of unbeaten runs. Spain lost via penalties to Portugal in the Nations League final in 2025.
