Can Arsenal make their case for a top 4 finish with a win over Newcastle this Monday, at 8pm on Sky Sports Premier League? Though February started poorly, the Gunners ended up having a pretty decent end to the first quarter. In the league they’re unbeaten in 5 games, including a draw at Tottenham and a victory over Man United, while they managed to force their way through to the Europa League quarter-finals, overcoming their horrendous away form in the both the round of 32 and last 16.
Almost as importantly, their top 4 rivals have been riddled with issues. Spurs, who not too long ago were still considered title contenders, have picked up just one point in the league across their last 5 fixtures, most recently suffering a 90th minute own-goal disaster against Liverpool. Chelsea have been spotty, while, as mentioned, Arsenal nabbed 3 points off of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United. That means a win would leave Unai Emery’s lot on 63 points and in 3rd place, pushing them above Spurs, Chelsea and United, all of whom have played one more game than the Gunners. As for Newcastle, they just about seem to have escaped the hustle and bustle of the relegation battle (though it’d only take a few bad results to cause them to re-enter the fray). In 14th place they’ve created a 7 point gap between them and Cardiff in 18th, benefiting from a late win at Everton and an even later draw at Bournemouth before the international break. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be looking to get a hand on the season’s Golden Boot, his 17 league goals leaving him at a Super Mega PGM of 64-74, with Alexandre Lacazette some distance behind at 46-53. In comparison, Jose Salomon Rondon – who has less than half of Aubameyang’s season-long tally in all competitions – sits at a spread of 17-21. The Gunners haven’t lost a league home fixture since the very first day of the season. That’s unlikely to change on Monday, with Spreadex offering an Arsenal/Newcastle Goal Supremacy spread of 1.5-1.7, alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.05-3.25.
