Premier League Preview – Brighton vs Man City/Liverpool vs Wolves, Sunday 12th May 2019

With the title race coming down to the final day of the season, who will finish Sunday as 2018/19 Premier League champions: Man City or Liverpool?

After their Anfield heroics on Tuesday, the Reds will be hoping for another miracle this weekend. There are a few permutations as to how things could pan out. If City beat Brighton, then they are champions, regardless of what Liverpool manage against Wolves. If City draw, then the Reds must win to secure the title. Due to City’s superior goal difference, if they were to lose and Liverpool were to draw, the Reds would only be crowned champions if Brighton somehow beat City by 5 or more goals. Obviously a City loss and Liverpool victory would see the latter triumphant.

First and foremost, then, Liverpool need to make sure they best Wolves. Last August this result would seem a no-brainer. Yet last season’s Championship champs have become this season’s surprise package, a string of big wins leaving them in 7th place. They’ve beaten Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal in the league, and United again in the FA Cup, a result that was notably preceded by Wolves knocking out Liverpool in the 3rd round.

So, 3 points on Sunday shouldn’t be taken as a given. However, having hammered Barcelona 4-0 to secure a place in the Champions League final for a 2nd consecutive season, the Reds will hardly be short on confidence.

And who’s to say they can’t win the league? On Tuesday it looked highly unlikely that they’d be anywhere near the Wanda Metropolitano in June, and now they’re arguing with UEFA over ticket allocation. They should at least romp to victory at Anfield, with Spreadex offering a Liverpool/Wolves Goal Supremacy spread of 1.55-1.75, alongside a Total Goals spread of 3-3.2.

City losing the league against previous relegation candidates Brighton would be a fitting way to end a week full of teams completely bottling it. It is hard to fathom that happening, however. Pep Guardiola’s side are currently on a 13-game winning streak in the Premier League. In fact, bar that shock loss at Newcastle in January, they’ve won every domestic fixture they’ve played in 2019, a record that covers not only the league, but the EFL and FA Cups.

And though they haven’t exactly been at their best in the last couple of weeks, they most likely will demolish the Seagulls on Sunday, with Spreadex offering a Man City/Brighton (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 2.15-2.35, alongside a Total Goals spread of 3.3-3.5.
