Can Liverpool finally reclaim their Premier League top spot with a win at Man United this Sunday? Come the end of the season, this weekend could well be looked back on as the decisive moment in the title race. Level on points with Man City – who are expected to romp to an EFL Cup at Wembley, with Spreadex offering a Man City/Chelsea Goal Supremacy spread of 0.95-1.15 – having played one game fewer than the defending champions, the Reds will leapfrog into 1st place as long as they avoid losing at Old Trafford.
It is going to be a major test of Liverpool’s mettle, something that has looked a bit more fragile than it did back in 2018. Since 2019 began they’ve lost to Man City and Wolves, drawn against Leicester, West Ham and, on Tuesday, Bayern Munich, and only managed to beat the less than stellar trio of Brighton, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth. Even if their red hot form has cooled somewhat, they still have the Premier League’s (joint) top scorer at their disposal. On 20 goals in all competitions, Mohamed Salah is heading into Sunday’s huge clash with a Super Mega PGM of 41-48, substantially higher than Sadio Mane’s 22-27 and Daniel Sturridge’s 21-26. Though his managerial unbeaten streak is no longer intact, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Man United responded well to their Champions League loss to PSG, bouncing back with an FA Cup win over Chelsea. That means the Norwegian has led United to victories over half of the Premier League’s top 6 – Arsenal and the Blues in the Cup, Tottenham in the league itself – and will hoping to add a fourth scalp on Sunday. Lacking the force of someone like Salah, United nevertheless have a fair few options going forwards. Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and an out of form Romelu Lukaku all sit at a Super Mega PGM of 20-24, with Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez at 14-18 apiece. This could be a testy fixture; not only are the Reds chasing the top spot, United are keen to cement their 4th place credentials. With that in mind, Spreadex are offering a Liverpool/Man United (h) Goal Supremacy spread of 0.15-0.35, alongside a Total Goals spread of 2.75-2.95 and a Bookings spread of 48-52.
