Argentina were involved in one of the most entertaining ties of the Round of 32, edging past tournament surprise package Cape Verde after extra time. The World Cup debutants produced a courageous display and pushed the reigning champions all the way, but Argentina's quality eventually proved decisive to book a last-16 showdown with Egypt.
Egypt also needed nerves of steel to reach this stage, overcoming Australia in a dramatic penalty shootout after a hard-fought contest. With both nations boasting world-class talent, this promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the round. The spotlight will undoubtedly fall on two of football's greatest icons as Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah go head-to-head for a place in the quarter-finals.

Argentina are the favourites to win this fixture, priced at 4/11 on Spreadex’s fixed odds market (4/11 on our 2 Up early payout Match Odds market) with Egypt priced at 8/1 (15/2 on the 2 Up early payout market) and the draw at 15/4.
The last time these two sides met was back in 2008 with Argentina winning the fixture 2-0 through goals from Sergio Aguero and Nicolas Burdisso. A repeat of that scoreline this time round is priced at 5/1.
Alternatively, if you’re expecting Argentina to win without Egypt getting on the scoresheet without picking an exact result, Argentina To Win To Nil is available at Evens.
Our football spread betting prices have Argentina as the favourites with a Goal Supremacy quote of Argentina/Egypt 1.3 – 1.5. This means a 'buy' bet at 1.5 would need an Argentina two goal win to start turning a profit (e.g. two goal win would win 0.5x your stake, three goal win would win 1.5x your stake etc.).
A 1.3 'sell' bet would need an Argentina one goal win, draw or Egypt win to turn a profit (e.g. Argentina one goal win would win 0.3x your stake, draw would win 1.3x your stake and a one goal Egypt win would win 2.3x your stake etc.).
Our spread betting Total Goals line is 2.5 – 2.7. So a 2.7 'buy' bet would need at least three goals to be scored in the match to start turning a profit. Conversely, a ‘2.5’ sell bet would need two goals or less to be scored in the match to turn a profit.
Remember that with spread betting, get the bet wrong and losses can exceed your stake/deposit. E.g. a 2.7 'buy' Total Goals bet would lose 2.7x your stake if the match ended 0-0. In the 1.5 'buy' Supremacy bet example above a one goal Argentina win would lose 0.5x your stake, a draw would lose 1.5x your stake and a one goal Egypt win would lose 2.5x your stake etc. And in the 1.3 'sell' Supremacy example above, the bet would lose 0.7x your stake on a two goal Argentina win, 1.7x your stake on a three goal Argentina win etc.
Price Boosts are typically available on the Spreadex website the day before the game, so it’s worth checking back closer to kick-off for enhanced odds. In addition, Spreadex also features ‘Popular Bet-Builders’, specially curated by their in-house pricing team to highlight fan-favourite betting combinations.
The First Match Goal in the Australia v Egypt game came in just the 13th minute. This time round the spread betting market First Match Goal has a spread of 36-39. This means a ‘sell’ at 36 would win 23x your stake if there were a repeat of a 13th minute opening goal.
Remember that with spread betting, get the bet wrong and losses can exceed your stake/deposit. So for example if the First Match Goal was scored in the 50th minute a ‘sell’ at 36 would lose 14x times your stake.
Spreadex offers a wide range of football spread betting prices on Argentina v Egypt, as well as traditional sportsbook/fixed odds prices.
Some of these markets include options such as Player Goal Minutes (the aggregate minutes of the goals scored by a named player in a match), Total Goal Minutes (the aggregate of the minutes of all goals scored in a match), Shirt Numbers (the aggregate of the shirt numbers of all goalscorers in a match), Bookings Points (based on 10 points per yellow, 25 per red), Corners, Time of 1st Match Goal, Match Performance and many, many more.
