The Big Bash League (BBL) is Australia’s premier domestic Twenty20 cricket competition, featuring top Australian talent alongside leading international stars in a fast-paced franchise tournament. Launched in 2011 by Cricket Australia, the BBL quickly became one of the most popular T20 leagues in the world, known for its exciting cricket, family-friendly atmosphere and huge summer crowds.
Played annually during the Australian summer, the competition features eight city-based teams competing in a league stage followed by a knockout finals series. Matches are held in some of Australia’s most iconic cricket venues and are broadcast globally, helping the tournament attract international audiences and star players.
With explosive batting, high-scoring matches and dramatic finishes, the Big Bash League delivers entertaining T20 cricket throughout the holiday season.
The most recent completed BBL season saw Perth Scorchers crowned champions after defeating Sydney Sixers by six wickets in the final at Sydney Cricket Ground.
Australian and Melbourne Stars batsman Sam Harper was named Player of the Tournament following a series of explosive batting displays during the campaign.
