Freiburg and Aston Villa will contest this year’s Europa League final this Wednesday at Beşiktaş Park in Istanbul. It’s the first European final of the season, and offers both sides a chance to win a major trophy for the first time this century.
Freiburg finished 7th in the Bundesliga this year, qualifying for European football for the second season in a row under Julian Schuster. Now his side have a chance to win a European trophy for the first time in the club’s history. Freiburg have been strong in Europe all season, losing just once in the league phase, and winning relatively comfortably in their knockout ties. Now they face their toughest test yet as they take on Aston Villa. Can they claim the Europa League crown this Wednesday?

Aston Villa have a chance to cap off another strong season under Unai Emery, with Champions League football secured for next year and a piece of silverware within sight. Villa bounced back from a slight dip in form with a strong win over Liverpool at the weekend, and will be hoping to carry this form through to Istanbul on Wednesday. Emery’s men have been formidable in Europe for the most part, winning heavily in their knockout ties, including a comeback victory against Nottingham Forest in the semi-final. Can Villa win their first major trophy in more than 30 years on Wednesday?

These two sides have never met before, so both will need to settle early in such a high-pressure game. Villa are fairly strong favourites to get the better of the match, currently priced at 8/13 to win, or at 3/5 in our 2 Up market which pays out if your team goes up by two goals during the game.
Freiburg are the underdogs, and can be backed at 17/4 or at 15/4 in our 2 Up market. Interestingly, neither side has a single draw in all 12 knockout games this Europa League campaign. If you expect this run to end, you can back the match to be level after 90 minutes at 29/10.

We also offer a number of spread betting markets for Wednesday’s clash, including our “Goal Supremacy” market. This market currently has Villa favoured by 0.85-1.05 goals. This means that if you placed a “buy” bet, you would need Villa to win by at least two goals to start turning a profit, and if you sold, you would need Freiburg to win or draw. If you bought, a two-goal victory for Villa would win you 0.95 times your stake, a three-goal victory 1.95 times your stake, and so on.
However, if you bought and Villa lost, drew, or won by only one goal, you would lose money. Here, a one-goal loss would cost you 2.05 times your stake, and a draw would cost 1.05 times your stake.
You can also bet on the total number of goals scored during the game with our Total Goals market. This is currently set at 2.55-2.75. If you’re expecting plenty of goalmouth action, you would “buy” and would need at least three total goals to turn a profit. Alternatively, if you expect a low-scoring affair, you could “sell” and would need three goals or fewer to turn a profit.
If you sold and the game ended 1-0, you would win 1.55 times your stake. However, if you sold and the game ended 4-2, you would lose 3.45 times your stake. It’s important to remember that when spread betting, if your bet loses, you can lose multiples of your stake, so be sure to choose appropriate stake sizes for each market.
