Japan Recent Form
The Samurai Blue have continued their excellent form into the World Cup, with the Asian side on a nine match unbeaten run and having lost just two of their last 20 matches, winning 14 of those.
Their first two group fixtures have seen a creditable draw with the Netherlands and followed by a dominant drubbing of Tunisia. They will now look to finish off their group stage exploits with another strong performance to confirm their place in the knockout stages.
Win: Tunisia 0-4 Japan, 21 June 2026.
Draw: Netherlands 2-2 Japan, 14 June 2026.
Win: Japan 1-0 Iceland, 31 May 2026.
Win: England 0-1 Japan, 31 March 2026.
Win: Scotland 0-1 Japan, 28 March 2026.
Sweden Recent Form
Sweden have had a somewhat peculiar start to their World Cup, beginning in dominant fashion with a highly impressive 5-1 drubbing of Tunisia in their opener, but then fell to a heavy defeat by the same scoreline to European rivals Netherlands in the second round of group fixtures.
Graham Potter's side will look to leverage their attacking talents with the likes of Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres here and finish the group stage strongly, with only a victory here providing a 100% guarantee of further progression.
Loss: Netherlands 5-1 Sweden, 20 June 2026.
Win: Sweden 5-1 Tunisia, 15 June 2026.
Draw: Sweden 2-2 Greece, 4 June 2026.
Loss: Norway 3-1 Sweden, 1 June 2026.
Win: Sweden 3-2 Poland, 31 March 2026.

These sides have met four times before and all of those meetings produced tightly-contested affairs. Three matches ended in draws, while Sweden grabbed the lone victory. A repeat of that 1-0 win back in 1997 can be backed here at 8/1.
In terms of the match odds, Japan are 10/11 to win (17/20 on our 2-UP market), while a Sweden win is priced at 10/3 (29/10 on our 2-UP market). The draw is available at 23/10.

Alternatively, sports spread betting markets are available for the match, offering a different way to bet on sports compared to regular fixed odds betting.
Selected football spread betting markets include Total Goals; the spread is 2.8 – 3. If you thought there would be 4 goals or more in the match you would make a ‘buy’ bet. If the match finished 3-2 then a ‘buy’ bet would return a profit of 2x your stake. However, if the match finished with less than 3 goals, a ‘buy’ bet would return a loss. E.g. a final score of 1-0 would return a loss of 2x your stake.
Another available spread betting market is 1st Match Goal; the spread is 34 – 37. If you thought the 1st Goal would come before the 34th minute you would make a ‘sell’ bet. If the 1st Goal came in the 17th minute, then a ‘sell’ bet would return 17x your stake. However, if the 1st Goal came after the 37th minute then a ‘sell’ bet would return a loss. E.g. a 1st Goal in the 44th minute would return a loss of 10x your stake. A ‘sell’ bet would also return a loss if no goal was scored.
Other football spread betting markets on Japan v Sweden include Shirt Numbers, Bookings, Corners, Total Goal Minutes and Goals Cubed.
