National League North side Macclesfield have reached the third round for the very first time and they landed a plum tie when they drew the holders Crystal Palace. Following the departure of Robbie Savage in the summer, John Rooney is the man in the dugout at Moss Rose and his side are in 14th place – though a congested league table means they are just three points outside of the extended play-offs.
Palace will be the first side from the professional ranks that Macclesfield will have faced in this cup run having beaten Atherton Laburnum Rovers, Nantwich Town, Stamford, AFC Totton, and Slough Town to reach this stage of the competition. Since that famous victory against Slough, striker Ethan McLeod tragically passed away when driving home from a league match against Bedford last month and he will surely be in the mind of Rooney’s squad this weekend.
29-year-old striker Danny Elliott is the main danger man for Macclesfield having scored 41 goals in all competitions last season. Recent signing Cameron Borthwick-Jackson could get a run out, with the Manchester United academy product playing three games in the Red Devils’ run to cup glory ten years ago.

With matches coming thick and fast for Palace, the in-demand Oliver Glasner will surely rotate his squad for this one. Walter Benitez is likely to be between the posts for the Londoners, whilst Christiantus Uche could also get a run out. The Nigerian signed in the summer from Getafe and has scored two goals in four Europa Conference League matches.
Palace’s last match in the third tier European competition saw Glasner give some of his young guns game time and the likes of Joel Drakes-Thomas, Jaydee Canvot, and Dean Benamar could all get some minutes this weekend.

Of the last 13 cup holders, 12 have successfully navigated their way through to the fourth round and Palace should have little issue in making that 13 tomorrow. The Eagles are a prohibitive 2/9 to win inside 90 minutes, but there are other angles which are a bit more approachable.
In the handicap markets, Palace are 13/20 at -1 and 8/5 at -2. You can back the visitors to win to nil at 11/10 with a win for the Premier League outfit with both sides scoring is 31/20.
If you fancy a huge cup upset, you can back Macclesfield to win at 9/1, with the Silkmen priced at 6/1 to make it through to the next round by any means. Macclesfield marksman Danny Elliott is 10/3 to git the back of the net tomorrow and is 11/1 to open the scoring in Cheshire.

With such short odds on a Palace win, punters may want to look at the Supremacy spread which is set at 1.95-2.15 in favour of the Premier League outfit. Tottenham were notable strugglers in their away match at Tamworth in the cup last season and Palace will be looking to avoid a hard afternoon on another artificial surface.
Glasner will be hoping his troops fly out of the traps early doors and you can buy or sell the minute of the first Palace goal at 33-36 (remember that if you fancy Palace to score before the 33rd minute you would be looking to sell in this market).
Finally, we have our usual array of classic football spread betting markets, with Total Goals available to trade at 3.45-3.65, and Shirt Numbers – always an interesting one in the cup – priced at 68-73.

There are plenty of price boosts ahead of this clash with Marc Guehi 13/1 from 9/1 to score a header and Borna Sosa 25/1 from 18/1 to score a free-kick. Christiantus Uche is 11/2 from 19/4 to score two or more goals, with Isaac Buckley-Ricketts & Justin Devenny both to score also boosted to 13/1 from 9/1.
D’Mani Mellor made one appearance for Manchester United back in 2020 and he will be looking to showcase his ability in front of the cameras tomorrow. The former Wycombe and Rochdale man is 11/2 from 19/4 to score any time for the hosts tomorrow.
