Consecutive wins have lifted Newcastle into the top half and they will have their sights on a European place with the top half of the table extremely congested. Tonight, Eddie Howe’s side welcome Leeds to St James’ Park with the visitors on a seven game unbeaten run.
The Magpies are also on an impressive run of their own, having gone seven matches without defeat at home in the league, with only Arsenal and Liverpool leaving Tyneside with all three points this season. Curiously, they have scored exactly two goals in each of those seven matches.
With the games coming thick and fast at this time of year, injuries are unavoidable and Anthony Elanga could once again be missing for the hosts tonight, whilst a late decision will be made on Jacob Murphy who came off during Sunday’s win over Crystal Palace.
NEWCASTLE RECENT FORM
WIN: Newcastle 2-0 Crystal Palace. Sunday 4th January 2026.WIN: Burnley 1-3 Newcastle. Tuesday 30th December 2025.LOSS: Manchester United 1-0 Newcastle. Friday 26th December 2025.
With the 18th best away record in the league, Leeds head to St James’ Park with only one win in their last seven attempts away at Newcastle. They have however found some recent steel on the road, with hard fought draws away at Brentford, Sunderland, and Liverpool (all teams directly around Newcastle in the ‘home’ table) in their recent matches.
Sunday’s performance against Manchester United yielded another good point, but the Whites looked leggy after their festive excursions and this could potentially be a game too far. Ethan Ampadu will return after suspension, but Welsh team mates Dan James and Joe Rodon continue to be sidelined. Jayden Bogle is Leeds’ highest minute maker this season, but he too could miss this one, meaning James Justin will continue to deputise in the right wing back role.
One bright spot for Daniel Farke is Sean Longstaff. The Geordie was an unused sub against Manchester United, but the dynamic midfielder may be fit enough to make an appearance against his hometown club.
