Newcastle host Liverpool on the opening weekend of the 2026/27 Premier League season, with both sides undergoing significant changes over the summer. Both clubs have appointed new managers, with Eddie Howe replaced by Matthias Jaissle at Newcastle, while Arne Slot has been replaced by Andoni Iraola at Liverpool.
The summer transfer window has also seen plenty of movement at St James’ Park, with Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães among those to leave the Toon Army. Newcastle have looked to inject fresh, young talent into their squad, bringing in the likes of Bazoumana Touré, Amar Dedić and Aladji Bamba.
Liverpool have also been active in the transfer market, with Curtis Jones and Ibrahima Konaté departing. They have strengthened their squad with the arrivals of Victor Muñoz, Jérémy Jacquet and Ronald Araújo as they look to begin a new era under Iraola.

Liverpool are the favourites to win this fixture, priced at 10/11 on Spreadex’s fixed odds market (4/5 on our 2 Up early payout Match Odds market) with hosts Newcastle priced at 13/5 (9/4 on the 2 Up early payout market) and the draw at 14/5.
The last time these two sides met Liverpool ran out 4-1 winners with Hugo Ekitike scoring a brace with Florian Wirtz and Ibrahima Konate also getting on the scoresheet. A repeat of that scoreline this time round is priced at 20/1.
Alternatively, if you’re expecting Liverpool to win with Newcastle getting on the scoresheet without picking an exact result, Liverpool To Win & BTTS is available at 2/1.
Our football spread betting prices have Liverpool as the favourites with a Goal Supremacy quote of Liverpool/Newcastle (H) 0.5 – 0.7. This means a 'buy' bet at 0.7 would need a Liverpool win to start turning a profit (e.g. one goal win would win 0.3x your stake, two goal win would win 1.3x your stake etc.).
A 0.5 'sell' bet would need a draw or Newcastle win to turn a profit (e.g. a draw would win 0.5x your stake and a one goal Newcastle win would win 1.5x your stake etc.).
Our spread betting Total Goals line is 3.35 – 3.55. So, a 3.55 'buy' bet would need at least four goals to be scored in the match to start turning a profit. Conversely, a ‘3.35’ sell bet would need three goals or less to be scored in the match to turn a profit.
Remember that with spread betting, get the bet wrong and losses can exceed your stake/deposit. E.g. a 3.55 'buy' Total Goals bet would lose 3.55x your stake if the match ended 0-0. In the 0.7 'buy' Supremacy bet example above, a draw would lose 0.7x your stake and a one goal Newcastle win would lose 1.7x your stake etc. And in the 0.5 'sell' Supremacy example above, the bet would lose 0.5x your stake on a one goal Liverpool win and 1.5x your stake on a two goal Liverpool win etc.
Price Boosts are typically available on the Spreadex website the day before the game, so it’s worth checking back closer to kick-off for enhanced odds. In addition, Spreadex also features ‘Popular Bet-Builders’, specially curated by their in-house pricing team to highlight fan-favourite betting combinations.
The last three times these sides have met there has been late drama with a goal scored in the 90th minute on each occasion. This time round the spread for the Last Match Goal is 69-72. This means if there were a repeat of late drama with another 90th minute goal, a buy at 72 would win 28x your stake.
Remember that with spread betting, get the bet wrong and losses can exceed your stake/deposit. So for example if the Last Match Goal was scored in the 50th minute a ‘buy’ at 72 would lose 22x times your stake.
