The World Darts Championship is the pinnacle of the darting calendar. Played every year at London's iconic Alexandra Palace, the tournament straddles the festive period, typically running from early December to early January of the following year. The event was held at the Circus Tavern in Essex from 1994-2007 before moving to the "Ally Pally" in 2008, where it has remained since.
The World Championship brings together the world's best players, with the 2026 edition boasting a 128-strong field, including four women. It also offers the largest prize fund of any tournament on the darting calendar, with £5M on offer at the 2026 edition, including £1M for the winner.
Luke Littler is the reigning champion after defeating Gian Van Veen in the final to claim his second successive title. Phil Taylor is the tournament's most successful player, amassing an astonishing 14 titles over his career.

The 2027 edition will return in December 2026 and will conclude in January 2027. It's worth noting that the tournament is always named after the year in which it finishes, not when it starts ie the 2027 edition begins in 2026 but finishes in 2027.
The tournament is shown live on Sky Sports, with coverage typically split between Sky Sports Darts and Sky Sports Main Event.
Reigning champion Luke Littler will be the favourite to defend his title after a dominant display at the 2026 edition. The 19-year-old will be aiming to become the first player since Phil Taylor in 2006 to win three consecutive world titles.
