Early in the season, Sheffield United found themselves stuck in the relegation zone for long stretches of the campaign. However, a strong run of recent results has lifted the Blades up to 15th place in the league table.
Despite sitting mid-table, there is still a faint hope of reaching the play-off spots, with sixth place just six points away. The question now is whether they can continue their momentum, close that gap, and potentially pile more misery on arch-rivals Sheffield Wednesday by condemning them to relegation in Sunday’s derby.

It has been a season to forget for Sheffield Wednesday and their supporters. Early in the campaign, the club entered administration and were hit with a total of 18 points in deductions. Combined with just one win and eight draws all season, that leaves them stranded on -7 points.
Relegation has long felt inevitable for Wednesday fans, but the prospect of it being confirmed by arch-rivals Sheffield United on Sunday would make it even more painful. Despite their struggles and a depleted squad, the Owls’ faithful will be hoping for a spirited and passionate display in the derby, if not to change their fate, then at least to claim the bragging rights in the Steel City.

Sheffield United are the massive favourites to win on Sunday and are priced at 2/17 to get all three points on Spreadex’s fixed odds market (1/9 on our 2 Up early payout Match Odds market). Sheffield Wednesday are priced at 16/1 to win on Sunday (14/1 on our 2 Up early payout match odds market) and the draw priced at 15/2.
In their last 11 games Sheffield Wednesday have only managed to score one goal. With Sheffield United heavy favourites in this match and with the home advantage Sheffield United To Win To Nil priced at 8/11 may be a market to look out for.
Sheffield United are the heavy favourites on our Goal Supremacy market with a quote of Sheffield United/Sheffield Wednesday 2.35 – 2.55. This means a 'buy' bet at 2.55 would need a Sheffield United three goal win to start turning a profit (e.g. three goal win would win 0.45x your stake, four goal win would win 1.45x your stake etc.).
A 2.35 'sell' bet would need a Sheffield United two goal win, Sheffield United one goal win, draw or Sheffield Wednesday win to turn a profit (e.g. Sheffield United one goal win would win 1.35x your stake, a draw would win 2.35x your stake and a one goal Sheffield Wednesday win would win 3.35x your stake etc.).
Our spread betting Total Goals line is 3.45 – 3.65. So a 3.65 'buy' bet would need at least four goals to be scored in the match to start turning a profit. Conversely, a ‘3.45’ sell bet would need three goals or less to be scored in the match to turn a profit.
Remember that with spread betting, get the bet wrong and losses can exceed your stake/deposit. E.g. a 3.65 'buy' Total Goals bet would lose 3.65x your stake if the match ended 0-0. In the 2.55 'buy' Supremacy bet example above, if the game ended in a draw you would lose 2.55x your stake, if the game ended in a Sheffield United one goal win then it would lose 1.55x your stake etc. And in the 2.35 'sell' Supremacy example above, the bet would lose 0.65x your stake on a three goal Sheffield United win and 1.65x your stake on a four goal Sheffield United win etc.
Price Boosts are typically available on the Spreadex website the day before the game, so it’s worth checking back closer to kick-off for enhanced odds. In addition, Spreadex also features ‘Popular Bet-Builders’, specially curated by their in-house pricing team to highlight fan-favourite betting combinations.
In Sheffield United’s last game the Last Match Goal was scored in the 90th minute. For Sunday’s game the Last Match Goal spread betting market has a spread of 70 – 73. This means another 90th minute goal would win 17x your stake if you were to ‘buy’ at 73.
Remember that with spread betting, get the bet wrong and losses can exceed your stake/deposit. So for example if the Last Match Goal was scored in the 45th minute, a ‘buy’ at 73 would lose 28x times your stake.
