Opening an account
How long does it take to open an account?
Most accounts are approved instantly when you complete our online application form. In some cases we may need additional identification documents, which can take a little longer. You can apply 24 hours a day.
Is there a minimum deposit?
The minimum deposit is £5. All standard deposit methods are free of charge and most are instant. See our Deposits & Withdrawals page for the full list of methods.
Are there any fees for having an account?
No. There are no joining fees, no account maintenance charges, and no inactivity fees — even if you don't trade for a while. You only pay when you trade, through the spread.
What currency can my account be in?
We offer accounts in GBP, USD, or EUR. If you'd like an account in a different currency, get in touch and we'll see what we can do.
Your first trade
How do I deposit funds?
On the app, tap 'Account' then 'Deposit' and choose your method. On desktop, click 'Add Funds' from the menu. Most methods — including debit card, credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Easy Bank Transfer — are instant. For a full guide, see How to Deposit and Withdraw Funds.
How do I place a trade?
Find your market using the search bar or the left-hand menu, hit 'Trade', enter your stake per point, add any stops or limits, and click buy or sell. Most trades execute in milliseconds. For a detailed walkthrough with screenshots, see How to Place a Spread Bet.
What's the difference between spread betting and CFD trading?
Both let you trade on the price movements of financial markets without owning the underlying asset. The key difference is tax: spread betting profits are free from capital gains tax and stamp duty in the UK, while CFD profits are subject to capital gains tax. Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change. We cover this in more detail in our Education Hub.
Can I trade on my phone?
Yes. Our app is available on iOS and Android and gives you full access to your account, including depositing, trading, charting, and withdrawals. Download it from the App Store or Google Play.
Managing risk
What happens if a trade goes against me?
Spread betting and CFD trading use leverage, which means both your profits and losses are magnified. You can use stop-loss orders to automatically close a position at a level you choose, helping to limit your downside. As a retail client, you're also covered by negative balance protection — meaning you can never lose more than the funds in your account.
What is a margin call?
A margin call happens when the funds in your account fall below the margin requirement needed to keep your positions open. If this happens, you'll need to either deposit more funds or close some positions. If your available balance remains negative, one or more positions may be closed automatically. You can monitor your margin at any time on the platform or app.
What are your trading hours?
Our financial trading desk is open 24 hours a day, Monday to Friday (closing at 22:00 on Fridays, reopening at 21:00 on Sundays). Individual market hours vary — you can find the specific hours for any instrument in the market information section of the platform.

Yes. Spreadex Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), registration number 190941. We've been operating since 1999.
What markets can I trade?
Over 10,000 markets including indices, UK and international shares, forex, commodities, bonds, options, ETFs, and interest rates. We also offer out-of-hours trading on popular indices and US shares. If there's a market you'd like to trade that isn't on the platform, let us know and we'll see if we can add it.
I've forgotten my password — how do I log in?
Click 'Forgotten Login Details' on the login page and follow the instructions to create a new password or retrieve your username. If your account is locked, call our team on 08000 526 570 and we'll get you back in.
