In a surprise stat from this summer's showpiece, Premier League club Sunderland were credited with having 12 players representing them at the 2026 World Cup - a tally that exceeds even global giants like Real Madrid.

On this topic, Spreadex Sports look at all of the teams with the highest representation at the tournament, and which nations are most heavily represented.

Sunderland, who were in the Championship not long ago, are represented in the World Cup by 12 players from 9 separate nations:

  • Robin Roefs (Netherlands)
  • Brian Brobbey (Netherlands)
  • Lutsharel Geertruida (Netherlands)
  • Granit Xhaka (Switzerland)
  • Omar Alderete (Paraguay)
  • Habib Diarra (Senegal)
  • Noah Sadiki (DR Congo)
  • Arthur Masuaku (DR Congo)
  • Chemsdine Talbi (Morocco)
  • Nilson Angulo (Ecuador)
  • Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast)
  • Wilson Isidor (Haiti)

This sets them above giant clubs like Liverpool and Manchester Utd, and just below the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
