France secured qualification to the round of 32 with a 3-0 win over Iraq on Monday night. It was the first match of the tournament to be affected by adverse weather, with a two hour delay during the match due to storms in the area. Below is our preview written ahead of the game.
When is France v Iraq?Monday 22nd June.
What time is kick-off for France v Iraq?10pm, UK time.
Where is France v Iraq being played?Philadelphia Stadium, Philadelphia.
How can I watch France v Iraq?BBC One.
After a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Norway in their first World Cup match since 1986, things do not get any easier for Iraq as they play France this evening. Les Bleus won their opener against Senegal 3-1, with Kylian Mbappe scoring a brace.
Didier Deschamps’ side remain favourites in our outright betting at 4/1, narrowly ahead of Spain, England, and Argentina, and they will be looking to fill their boots against Iraq tonight. The Iraqis looked defensively naïve in their defeat against Norway and whilst they were dealing with a world class forward in Erling Haaland, things do not get any easier tonight given the wealth of attacking talent at France’s disposal.
Worryingly for English coach Graham Arnold, they also struggled with the pace of Norway, which will once again be tested this evening in a match which could turn into a cricket score if France are on their game. Ali Al-Hamadi, who scored once on loan at Luton last season, will spearhead the attack for the underdogs this evening.

There may have been punters dreaming of getting behind France at a backable price, but with the French chalked up at 1/12 on our 1X2 market, they will have to look elsewhere to find an angle. Over 3.5 goals in the match is chalked up at 4/5, with over 5.5 at 4/1 and over 6.5 at 8/1. France win to nil is 1/2, but they are 17/10 to cover a -3 handicap and 15/4 on the -4 line.
In the individual markets, Mbappe is 2/1 to score first and 4/11 to score at anytime, with Ousmane Dembele even money to hit the back of the net and Bayern star Michael Olise priced at 6/5 in the same market.
If you do think a miracle is on the cards, Iraq are 25/1 shots to get their first ever World Cup win and they are 10/1 to snatch a draw – prices not to dissimilar to Cape Verde’s match with Spain where the minnows escaped with a point.
