There were plenty of big winning bets this weekend as some of our savvy online betting punters cashed in. We review the weekend’s action which saw records tumble, new world champions, and a debutant’s delight.

As always in our daily betting blog, we run through some of the biggest spread betting winners from Saturday and Sunday!

MANCHESTER CITY v EXETER CITY – GOALS X SHIRTS (SETTLED AT 5071)

There is only one place to start the weekend round-up and that is in east Manchester, where Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City completely demolished Exeter with a 10-1 win on Saturday.

Any hopes of a famous upset for the Grecians were dashed an hour before kick-off when the team news came through with plenty of the hosts’ heavy hitters being wheeled out to face the League One outfit.

With such a high scoreline, there were always likely to be plenty of big winning bets, but one of the biggest came in the Goals x Shirts market which was available to trade at 594-650 ahead of kick-off.

Eleven goals in the match, coupled with seven goals scored by players wearing a shirt number over 30 (including a brace from Manchester City’s number 82 Rico Lewis), meant the spread settled at 5071. Buyers landed themselves a huge win of 4421x their stake as Exeter suffered their joint-worst defeat.

SUBRIEL MATIAS v DALTON SMITH – COMPLETED ROUNDS SQUARED (SETTLED AT 25)

Britain gained its fifth current male boxing world champion as Dalton Smith became the latest member of that exclusive club following a sensational knockout win over Subriel Matias in New York.

Defending champion Matias was well-supported by a legion of Puerto Rican fans in the Big Apple, but there was a small South Yorkshire contingent who had travelled over to see Smith do the business.

The 28-year-old from Sheffield did the business in some style, later admitting that the gameplan had gone out of the window. Meeting fire with fire in the fifth round, Smith dropped Matias, who was able to beat the count, but was unable to convince the referee he was in a fit state to continue.

Before the first bell, you could trade the Completed Rounds Squared spread at 95-104, but with the spread settling at 25, it was sellers who recorded a knockout win of 70x their stake.

MARK SELBY v XIAO GUODONG – SELBY/XIAO POINT SUPREMACY (SETTLED AT -196)

With darts taking over the Ally Pally in December, it is the turn of snooker to take centre stage at the famous venue in January and the opening matches of the Masters produced two big shocks.

In the afternoon, Shaun Murphy was knocked out by Wu Yize, before Mark Selby also came a cropper against Chinese opposition as he was beaten 6-2 by Xiao Guodong. Three-time champion Selby was given a lesson by debutant Guodong, as the Chinese player opened up a 4-0 lead. Breaks of 76 and 101 helped the Jester From Leicester reduce the deficit to 4-2, but a 118 break in the 7th frame halted the comeback and set Guodong on the path to victory.

Selby was a big favourite beforehand and the Points Supremacy was set in his favour with the spread available to buy or sell at 146-186 before play began. However, some stunning scores from Guodong meant he scored 196 points more than Selby. A final makeup of -196 left sellers potting a win of 342x their stake.

Please note that these are examples of winning bets from the past week, and it is important to remember that spread betting carries a high level of risk to your capital and can result in losses larger than your initial stake/deposit.
