The Ayr Gold Cup managed to beat the weather on Saturday and in filthy conditions, Pellitory provided local jockey Danny Tudhope with his second winner in the race.

Trained by Danny O’Meara, Pellitory ran on well in the final furlong, to hold off the challenge of Marco Ghinai’s mount Tuco Salamanca, who came home in second by half a length.

The Tudhope/O’Meara combination struck in this race back in 2022 when Summerghand won and the Irish trainer also saddled the winner in 2024 when Louis The Pious came home in front.

Pelliotry Race Index buyers at 6-8 ahead of the race were handsomely rewarded. Normally, this market would settle at 50, but after Fandom was declared a non-runner, the maximum win became 49.4. Either way, buyers still landed a healthy touch of 41.4x their stake.

PAT BROWN V JOHN HEDGES - COMPLETED ROUNDS SQUARED (SETTLED AT 25)

Boxing fans were treated to a high-quality domestic clash over the weekend as Pat Brown claimed the vacant British and Commonwealth Cruiserweight titles with a stoppage victory over John Hedges.
